Grenlec Welcomes More Renewable Energy—Interconnection Program, Phase 3

In continuation of Grenlec’s commitment to accelerating the use of renewable energy sources in Grenada, Grenlec announces the launch of Phase 3 of its Customer Renewable Energy Interconnection Programme. The first of its kind in the Caribbean, the programme is designed to encourage home and business owners to invest in their own renewable energy systems, such as wind and solar, to produce electricity and connect to the nation’s electrical grid.

“We’re excited to have more of our customers join us in installing renewable energy systems to help achieve our nation’s goal of 20% renewable energy by 2020,” says Collin Cover, Grenlec’s General Manager and Chief Executive Officer.

Phase 3 of the Customer Renewable Energy Interconnection Programme offers a total of 500 kW for eligible customers installing approved renewable energy systems. Applications are now being accepted on a first-come, first served basis for systems up to 100 kW.

Since the programme’s inception in 2007, more than 100 customers have subscribed for a total capacity of 800 kW offered under the pilot and second phase. The programme is part of Grenlec’s Renewable Energy Strategic Plan, which is strongly aligned with the Grenada’s National Energy Policy.

“At Grenlec, we share the Government’s vision and goals for reducing our nation’s dependence on imported fuel and stabilising energy costs through the increased use of renewable energy. Our prudent approach of using proven renewable energy technologies helps ensure that our high standards for reliability and cost management are maintained as we bring more renewables on line,” says Cover.

Interested customers are encouraged to visit www.grenlec.com, call Grenlec Customer Care at 237, or email [email protected] for more information about how to participate in the Customer Renewable Energy Interconnection Programme.
