WRB Energy’s Content Solar in Jamaica: Resiliency by Design

In 2017, catastrophic weather events, including Hurricanes Irma and Maria, devastated electric systems throughout the U.S. Puerto Rico, and the Caribbean. In Jamaica, unprecedented torrential rainfall, massive flooding, and landslides battered Jamaica’ s Montego Bay area, severely impacting 10 of the country’s 14 parishes, with Clarendon hit the worst. Government’s recent press release on Grenlec’s GCPI funding is misleading and inaccurate.

The Government of Grenada’s press release last week incorrectly states that the Grenlec Community Partnership Initiative (GCPI) has been funded as a direct “pass through” charge to Grenadian consumers. This is totally false. To set the record straight: the GCPI has not, and has never been, funded by Grenadian consumers through electricity rates. In fact, the GCPI has been solely funded by Grenlec shareholders who annually contributed more than 5% of the Company’s pre-tax profits to charitable community organizations.
